Q&A

When applied properly, lash extensions should not damage your natural lashes. But proper application matters just as much as choosing the right length and weight.

Extensions should be applied to the natural lashes, not directly to the skin, and each natural lash should be properly isolated. When two or more natural lashes are stuck together, they can grow at different speeds, causing one lash to pull on another and potentially lead to premature shedding or damage.

The extensions themselves also need to be appropriate for what your natural lashes can safely support. At Clement Lash, we consider length, weight, density, isolation, and placement when creating each set.

Your part matters too. Keeping your lash line clean and following proper aftercare helps support both your natural lash health and your extensions.

Healthy natural lashes always come before creating a heavier or more dramatic look.

You don’t necessarily need to take breaks from eyelash extensions if they are applied properly and your natural lashes and lash line remain healthy.

A healthy set should use appropriate length and weight, proper isolation, and correct placement without adhesive touching the skin. Regular cleansing and proper aftercare are also important for maintaining a healthy lash line.

At Clement Lash, we place a high value on natural lash health. We need healthy natural lashes as the foundation for beautiful extensions, so protecting them is in both your interest and ours. Our goal is the same as yours: to keep your natural lashes healthy while allowing you to enjoy extensions long term.

We assess your natural lashes at every appointment. If we notice unusual gaps, thinning, or changes in your lash line, we’ll let you know and adjust the plan if needed.

Healthy lashes don’t need a scheduled break just because you wear extensions continuously. What matters is how your natural lashes are doing.

No. When eyelash extensions are properly applied, they should feel lightweight and comfortable. Most of the time, you shouldn’t feel them at all.

You shouldn’t experience ongoing itching, poking, pulling, pinching, or tightness along your lash line. Your extensions also shouldn’t feel like they’re tugging when you blink or move your eyes.

Persistent discomfort can be a sign that something needs to be checked, such as poor isolation, extensions pulling on neighboring natural lashes, or placement that is too close to or touching the skin.

If your extensions feel uncomfortable, don’t assume that’s just part of wearing lashes. Let your stylist know so the lash line can be checked.

Good eyelash extensions should look noticeable, not feel noticeable.

Properly applied eyelash extensions should be attached to your natural lashes, not your eyelid skin, with about a 1–2 mm safety distance from the skin.

When the attachment is correct, you usually should not be able to see the adhesive.

If adhesive has cured directly on the skin, you may sometimes see a small stud or mushroom-shaped glue bump sitting at the lash line. That visible bump can be a sign that the extension was attached too close to or directly onto the skin.

If you can’t clearly see it, you may be able to feel it. Extensions glued to the skin can feel uncomfortable when you blink, with sensations like poking, catching, tightness, or pulling along the lash line.

Properly applied extensions should feel comfortable, and the adhesive should not be sitting on your skin.
